Milligan's Grindstaff earns AAC cross country recognition

Milligan's Lauren Grindstaff was named AAC female runner of the week.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE —  Milligan’s Lauren Grindstaff, was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's female runner of the week after her performance Saturday in the Greater Louisville Classic women’s 5K.

The Buffaloes entered the competition ranked 20th in the NAIA National Women’s Cross Country Coaches Poll. The team is also ranked first in the AAC ratings.

Grindstaff, a former Dobyns-Bennett standout, competed against 329 runners and placed 18th overall with a time of 18:55. She led  the team to a 12th place finish.

”We were excited with Lauren’s performance this past weekend,” said coach Chris Layne. “I thought she attacked the race and her effort certainly paid off. It’s great to see her excel on and off the field of play.”

The Buffaloes return to action Oct. 18 as they travel to  the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. The race is set to start at 3 p.m.
