KINGSPORT — Two people have been arrested for allegedly attempting to roll a buggy loaded with $1,500 worth of merchandise they hadn't bought out of the Kingsport Town Center.
The pair also face theft charges in Bristol, Tenn., where they're accused of recently stealing a 46-inch television from Kmart.
According to a report at the Kingsport Police Department, shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the Kingsport Town Center, 2101 Fort Henry Drive. Mall security called police after detaining two individuals in the parking lot.
Ransom D. McCoy, 44, of 17660 Buffalo Road, Bristol, Va., and Alicia McCoy, 35, of 8512 Reedy Creek Road, Bristol, Va., had allegedly been observed inside Sears.
Police say they packed a shopping cart with a vacuum, power tools and other miscellaneous merchandise, then pushed the buggy out of the store without paying. At that point they were stopped by loss prevention personnel.
Police say they also located $280 in stolen jewelry inside Alicia McCoy's purse. A report on the incident lists the total value of the stolen items as $1,513.16.
Each was charged with felony theft of more than $1,000. A search of Ransom McCoy allegedly located four white pills inside a pocket of his pants, prompting an additional charge of possession of Schedule IV drugs.
The McCoys were booked into the city jail, with a hold put in place from the Bristol Tennessee Police Department.
BTPD Capt. Charlie Thomas reports the pair had active warrants following a Sept. 30 incident at Kmart on West State Street, where they allegedly rolled a flat-screen TV out of the store.comments powered by Disqus
