Carter County deputy placed on leave without pay after domestic violence arrest

ELIZABETHTON — A deputy with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department was arrested on a domestic violence incident Sunday and has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.

Sheriff Chris Mathes said Deputy Matt Ainsworth, 25, Stonewall Jackson Boulevard, was arrested following an early morning incident in the Milligan community. Ainsworth was charged with assault under the Domestic Violence Law in the incident involving his girlfriend. Ainsworth was also charged with assault of a male neighbor who tried to intervene in the altercation. The condition of the two victims was not immediately known.

Ainsworth was booked into the Carter County Detention Center and was subsequently transported to the Washington County Detention Center for security precautions. His bond was set at $8,000.
