WISE — As grand openings go, Goodwill’s new outlet on Friday was actually quite grand, doing a bang-up business for Friday’s grand opening that continues into Saturday.
Friday’s grand opening featured hordes of shoppers prowling for bargains at Goodwill’s new outlet location in the Kmart shopping complex plaza off U.S. Route 23 between the downtown areas of Norton and Wise.
Bob Miller, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Tenneva serving nine counties in Virginia and eight in Tennessee, said Friday’s grand opening crush of customers will probably be a record.
“That’s one of our largest stores now at 7,500 square feet, and it’s all completely, newly renovated,” he said. “We were already, at around 3:30 (p.m.), where we feel we’re sure we will break a record there. Our record for any of our stores’ opening on its first day is about 15,000 and we’re going to break that pretty easily up there.”
“It was awesome this morning and we’ve had a really, really good turnout so far,” said Crystal Moore of Wise, assistant manager of the new outlet.Read more in the Saturday print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
