JOHNSON CITY — No pay. No play.
Unless a deal is reached, CBS affiliate WJHL TV 11 won’t be airing the Tennessee-Georgia football game or NFL contests this weekend on DISH Network.
“I personally want to apologize to the customers that they have been dragged into something they have no control over,” WJHL Vice President and General Manager Dan Cates said Friday of the lost sports events. “(But) we have permission from CBS to live stream (Saturday’s Tennessee-Georgia) game. Viewers who cannot watch due to DISH dropping WJHL can watch the game for free at www.wjhl.com.”
A retransmission agreement between DISH and WJHL’s parent company, Richmond, Va.-based Media General, ended last Tuesday and a blackout began for thousands of DISH households in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. More than a dozen Media General stations in Southeast markets are affected by the blackout.
Cates said he has no idea how long the blackout will last.
“We have seen situations where it’s lasted a couple of days or a couple of weeks. That would be unfortunate,” Cates said.Read more in the Saturday print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
