BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum will not make his return on Saturday after all.
The redshirt senior was cleared this week to return to action a little more than eight months after badly injuring his right knee in a pickup basketball game.
Exum said Friday in a statement released by the school he postponed his return because he wants to be ready to play at a high level and there are areas of his game that need fine tuning. He said it’s not in his best interests, or those of the team, for him to play just yet.
He said he’s suffered no setbacks.
The Hokies (4-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) play Coastal Division rival North Carolina (1-3, 0-1) on Saturday (12:30 p.m., WEMT-TV39).
Virginia Tech has the nation’s fifth-rated pass defense, allowing just 138 yards per game.
