Shelia Jean Harless, Lacie Renae Duncan and Marsha Ann Perry
Three women have been arrested in a prostitution sting in the small Southwest Virginia town of Pennington Gap.
According to Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons, the investigation was prompted by several complaints from town residents. For about a month, police had received reports of women standing along the streets, with witnesses spotting them being picked up by passing motorists.
On Wednesday afternoon, Parsons said, undercover officers made contact with three suspects and recorded an agreement of sexual favors for cash. The women were then arrested.
Police identified those charged as Lacie Renae Duncan, 22, of South Ford Street, Marsha Ann Perry, 31, of 304 W. Morgan Ave., and Shelia Jean Harless, 52, of 210 Harrell St., Apt. 4. Each is charged with prostitution. Harless also faces a charge of possession of a Schedule III drug.
The women were booked into the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield. They were to be arraigned Thursday.
Parsons said the operation was a cooperative effort between his agency, the Pennington Gap Police Department, Virginia State Police and Southwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force.
