Lane goal gives Lady Rebels District 1-AA crown

JOHNSON CITY — Sullivan South’s Taylor Lane scored a goal two minutes into the second half to lead the Lady Rebels to a 1-0 win over University High in a District 1-AA soccer showdown at Civitan Park on Tuesday.

The victory gave South (5-7-2, 3-1-0) the District 1 regular-season crown as well as an automatic berth in the district tournament final and the Region 1 semifinals.

Lane took a pass from teammate Marissa Byerley and found herself one-on-one with Lady Bucs goalkeeper Taylor Treadway. Lane lofted her shot over the charging Treadway and into the back of the net.

The Lady Rebels’ defense, led by Holley Kegley, was solid all night, allowing University High (6-4-0, 1-3-1) just five shots on goal.
