$15,000 reward for missing hiker in Maine

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The family of a Tennessee woman who went missing while hiking the Appalachian trail offered a $15,000 reward on Tuesday to anyone who has information about her location.

Sixty-six year-old Geraldine Largay went missing in July while hiking from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., to Maine's Baxter State Park, prompting an extensive search of the rocky and wooded terrain.

Her husband, George Largay, who had been providing supplies and support for his wife's hike, said she contacted him on July 21 from Saddleback Mountain and texted him again the following morning. Largay, who was last seen wearing a red pullover shirt, tan shorts and blue hat, had planned to meet her husband on the 23rd in Wyman Township, but never arrived there.

Maine game wardens scaled back their search for Largay in August, but local search groups, K-9's and wardens have continued to do several ground searches of the area since scaling back their efforts. Those efforts have uncovered no new clues.

Wardens said Tuesday that they will wait for the leaves to fall before having aircraft fly over areas that have not yet been searched.
