KINGSPORT — A lack of doors on boys bathroom stalls has raised concerns among some parents at Sullivan South High School.
Principal Greg Harvey said the doors, since mostly reinstalled, were removed in an effort to combat tobacco smoking in the bathrooms and that each boys bathroom still had at least one stall with a door. All girls bathroom stalls had doors, he said.
“Kids don’t want to use the bathrooms that smell like smoke,” Harvey said Friday.
However, Harvey said doors are back on most boys room stalls at South, the lack of which was a topic on Facebook among South parents recently.
“It’s something you find in any public school you go. A certain population wants to smoke,” Harvey said. “When it’s students smoking, that’s against the law.”Read more in Tuesday’s print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
