Members of the health care community, law enforcement, public health and academia gathered at East Tennessee State University for a summit on prescription drug abuse.
Professionals from Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee met on Wednesday to discuss the epidemic of prescription drug abuse in each of their respective states and share how their states have gone about trying to combat the problem.
Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus attended the event and was eager to hear from other professionals about the subject.
“I’m here to listen and learn,” he said. “I thought this would be a good opportunity to listen to people from other fields and from other agencies in order to try to get information that would help me as a prosecutor and to try and find a way to combat and find a solution to some of our pharmaceutical abuse problems in Sullivan County.”Read more of this story in Thursday's print edition of the Times-News or the expanded electronic edition.
