JOHNSON CITY — Looking ahead to a probable postseason matchup, Science Hill made a bold statement on Tuesday.
The Lady Hilltoppers (22-10, 7-3) rallied from a two games to one deficit to stun Dobyns-Bennett 15-25, 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 15-12 in a Big 7 Conference regular-season volleyball showdown at the Topper Palace.
Science Hill had to forfeit two earlier conference games because of the use of an ineligible player, so winning the regular-season crown is a long shot.
So the Lady Hilltoppers wanted to see how they matched up against a D-B team they will likely see again in postseason tournament play.
LaKeisha Gregory had a lot of say in the victory for the Lady ’Toppers, getting two aces, 14 kills, five blocks and 17 digs. Caprisha Webster added four aces, 12 kills and 18 digs for Science Hill.
Mandy Stallard had 16 digs for the Lady Hilltoppers. Emma Martindale dished out 36 assists and chipped in 12 digs.
Taylor Henry led D-B (22-7, 7-2) with 15 kills and Whitley Starnes had 12. Kerri Jones dished out 38 assists and Lexi Hartsock added 26.Read more in Wednesday's print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
