TIGERVILLE S.C. — North Greenville scored 30 unanswered points in the second and third quarters, then held off visiting Tusculum 39-36 in a thrilling non-conference clash Saturday night at Younts Stadium.

Bo Cordell threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns for the Pioneers (2-1), who led 21-7 in the first quarter. Tusculum took advantage of two Crusaders fumbles in the first five minutes of the game, turning both miscues into touchdowns.

Cordell completed 28 of his 55 pass attempts and was picked off once. Fernando Smith had three TD runs for the Pioneers.

Tusculum linebacker Brian Alexander tallied a season-high 14 tackles, including two for loss and a sack. The senior also recovered a fumble.

Nelson Hughes passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns for North Greenville (3-0). Hughes went 23-for-38, including 10 completions to Freddie Martino for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Tusculum returns to Pioneer Field next Saturday for homecoming. The Pioneers host defending South Atlantic Conference champion Lenoir-Rhyne for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
