Man accused of beating girlfriend because she was mourning her daughter

Charles Boyd Blair

ROGERSVILLE — A Rogersville woman told police her boyfriend beat her up Wednesday night because he was tired of her talking about the death of her 25-year-old daughter, who passed away Sept. 13 following a long illness.

The assault allegedly occurred after Rhonda Dorton told her boyfriend she wanted to remove a couch from their home because it reminded her of her daughter.

Charles Boyd Blair, 50, 303 Ross Circle, Rogersville, allegedly beat Dorton across the chest with a piece of house trim and pulled hair out of her head during the assault.

Blair, who was also allegedly drunk at the time, was charged Wednesday night with domestic assault.

He has two previous arrests for domestic assault on Dorton including July 10, 2012 and Nov. 8, 2012.

As of Thursday evening Blair was being held in the Hawkins County Jail on $25,000 bond pending arraignment Monday in Hawkins County Sessions Court.
