GATE CITY — Gate City got 34 kills from four spots on the floor Tuesday night and the Lady Blue Devils welcomed Chelsea Spivey back home with a 25-16, 25-9, 25-14 non-district win over the Lady Trailblazers.
Lindsey Harper knocked down 10 kills for Gate City (4-1). Julie Dockery hammered out nine, Caitlin McConnell pounded out eight and Kyra Jessee blasted seven, also getting six digs.
Spivey, who is in her first season as head volleyball coach at Daniel Boone, was the 2008 Group A player of the year after leading Gate City to the state title.
Haley Reed had 11 assists to go with three kills and two blocks. Kerri Hite lofted 18 assists. Libero Hayley Wolfe had five service aces and eight digs.
Tuesday’s match was the Lady Blue Devils’ third meeting with Boone this year, counting scrimmages. Spivey is the second of Amy Reed’s former players to ascend to the head coaching ranks. Former Lady Blue Devils hitter Kristen Salyer coaches women’s volleyball at Virginia-Wise.
Logan Larkey had six kills and three blocks for the Lady Trailblazers. Makinzi Sells had five kills, Caroline Little had 14 assists and a block, and Hannah Montoya had 12 digs.
