Stroud hat trick rallies Tribe to tie with 'Toppers

JOHNSON CITY — Dobyns-Bennett’s Shannon Stroud scored three second-half goals and rallied the Lady Indians to a 3-3 tie in a District 1-AAA soccer matchup with Science Hill at Kermit Tipton Stadium on Tuesday.

The result kept D-B (8-1-3, 3-0-1) and the Lady Hilltoppers (3-4-1, 3-0-1) tied atop the district standings.

A first-half goal by Hannah Torbett in the 14th minute gave Science Hill the early lead, an advantage that stood through halftime.

Stroud notched her first goal just 27 seconds into the second half to tie the contest, but the Lady ’Toppers answered immediately with a Grace Browder goal in the 42nd minute.

Four minutes later Stroud tied the game again.

Science Hill once again took the lead when Devin Fry scored on a breakaway with 20 minutes left in the game.

Finally a stunning goal by Stroud in the 75th minute pulled the Lady Indians even once again, and they held on for the 3-3 tie.
