KINGSPORT — A fiery Saturday night crash on Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport has claimed a second life.
Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton confirms Walter T. (Tony) Bellamy, 58, of Kingsport, died Tuesday morning.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Bellamy was in a Ford Expedition traveling south on Fort Henry Drive. Police say that near South Street a northbound Acura — estimated to be speeding at 104 mph — crossed the center turn lane and into their path.
The subsequent head-on collision caused both vehicles to burst into flames. Witnesses to the crash pulled Tony Bellamy from the burning SUV, along with two additional occupants: Colton S. Bellamy, 20, and Angela K. Bellamy, 51. They were then transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by EMS. Colton Bellamy and Angela Bellamy remain in critical condition.
The KPD has yet to identify the driver of the Acura, who died at the scene. An investigation into the incident is continuing.
Five people reportedly stopped to help pull the Bellamys from their SUV. They have been identified as Kingsport residents Justin Addington, 23, R.L. Williams, 60, Brian Woliver, 27, Joe Erwin, 27, and Johnson City resident Chris Faber, 26.
