ROGERSVILLE — If the Hawkins County Fireman’s Association doesn’t come up with another $2,500, it won’t be able to cover the insurance bill that provides accident and sickness coverage to about 275 volunteer firefighters in the eight county departments.
During the budget hearings for the proposed 2013-14 budget earlier this year, the HCFA was denied a requested contribution increase from $17,000 to $20,000.
On Friday, HCFA President Tony Fugate asked the County Commission’s Safety Committee to support an increase in the county contribution — not to $20,000 as previously asked, but to $25,000.
Most Safety Committee members voiced support for the HCFA funding increase during Friday’s meeting. The request will next come before the Budget Committee on Monday afternoon.
