KINGSPORT — A second-place finish in Saturday’s final match of the season lifted Matt Branham to Cherokee Rod & Gun Club’s 2013 Black Powder Cartridge championship.
Branham shot a match-total 284, enough to put him out front for the year at 1,982 with 7 x-rings. Dennis Rutledge, who won Saturday’s match with a 323-3x, was runner up for the year with 1,947-14x.
Willard Lamb (1,812-20x) and outdoor radio personality George Grant (1,696-19x) finished third and fourth on the year, respectively.
The matches, which utilize metallic cartridges hand loaded with lead bullets and muzzleloading propellant, showcase big-bore single shot rifles of the type used by buffalo hunters and match shooters of the 1800s.
