A 16-year-old has been arrested for setting a Kingsport home ablaze after he allegedly stole fish sticks, frozen pizzas, old coins and a Zippo lighter, according to the Kingsport Police Department.
On September 1, the Kingsport Fire Department responded to a fire at 2101 Steadman Street. Once KFD firefighters extinguished the blaze, both KPD and KFD began their investigation into the cause of the fire.
The investigation revealed accelerants had been used in the fire. The accelerant was poured on the floor of a back bedroom and a back entryway in the home and then ignited.
It was also revealed during the course of the investigation that the home had been burglarized. The renter of the home reported several items had been stolen, including a couple of boxes of fish sticks, frozen pizzas, old coins and a Zippo lighter.
KPD began interviewing neighbors and learned that a 16-year-old male took two boxes of frozen fishsticks and a Zippo lighter to a nearby neighbor on the night of the fire. The male asked the neighbor to cook the fish sticks for him and offered to give him the lighter, according to the police report.
The neighbor still had the fish sticks and the Zippo and the renter identified the items as being stolen from the home.
The juvenille was arrested and charged with arson and burglary. KPD said his identity will not be released.
