BRISTOL, Tenn. — Conference Carolinas announced Wednesday that Tornado cross-country runners Hannah Witt and Spencer Frantom were named Runners of the Week after their impressive individual performances at last week’s Eye Opener Invitational at Spartanburg, S.C.
Witt, a former Johnson County standout, opened her senior campaign with a dominating performance at the meet, which was comprised of both Division I and Division II runners. Witt finished first overall with a time of 18:24.79. Her finish was 35 seconds faster than her closest competitor and only seven seconds off of the King school record of 18:17, set in 2010.
Frantom, a Morristown West product, led the Tornado to a team win in the Eye Opener Invitational. The senior harrier finished third in the 145 person field with a time of 26.30.14. As a team, the Tornado won the Division II section of the meet, coming in ahead of Mars Hill College.
Both teams next compete at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. on September 20.
