For many, the first day of dove season signifies the start of the hunting year

DOVE FIELD, Va. — For an avid hunter, the approach of autumn has a peculiar sound. It begins at noon. A seasoned ear can easily sort out the 20s from the 12s — although the report of a stray 28-gauge might leave a few scratching their heads.
