BIG STONE GAP — Union’s Brandon Hubbard returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown as time expired and the Bears rallied for a 27-21 win over Richlands at Bullitt Park on Friday night.
Trailing 21-14 with 1:32 left in the game, Union (1-1) went 70 yards in five plays to tie the game with 43 seconds showing on the clock. On the final play of the drive, Bears junior quarterback Tanner Hall found wide receiver Jay Gavin alone in the flat and Gavin hauled in the pass and raced 37 yards for the TD, tying the game at 21.
With 16 seconds left in regulation, Blue Tornado quarterback River Michaels threw a pass in the direction of teammate Ben Brown, but Hubbard stepped in to intercept the ball and set sail for the end zone with the winning score.
Hall finished with 176 yards passing. Gavin had touchdown receptions of 60 and 37 yards.
Colton Staten led Richlands (1-1) with 23 carries for 182 yards.
