A valet attendant at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center has been arrested after allegedly stealing a guest's vehicle, then returning with it to work the next day.
Steven J. Frank, 25, of 1261 Watauga St., Kingsport, was booked into the city jail on Wednesday. That's the same day police located him at the convention center, 1901 Meadowview Parkway, with a stolen 2005 Buick LeSabre.
According to police records, on the previous evening a Kingsport woman and her parents visited the convention center to eat dinner. Upon arrival they paid a valet attendant, later identified as Frank, to park their car, and watched him drive away.
After dining they exited with valet voucher in hand, but neither Frank nor the vehicle could be located in the parking lot. Police were contacted and interviewed a MeadowView supervisor, learning Frank had not returned to his work station.
Police say they visited Frank's residence to speak with his father, who had not seen or heard from his son since approximately 3 p.m. The vehicle was entered into NCIC as stolen, and a BOLO was issued over police radio.
At approximately 8:30 Wednesday morning an officer responded back to the convention center, locating both Frank and the stolen car. He was arrested on a charge of motor vehicle theft and booked into the city jail.
Central dispatch contacted the owners to come pick up their car.
