Wanted Kingsport man jumps from moving vehicle

Steven Christopher Brown, 22, of 1045 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport.

A wanted Kingsport man reportedly jumped from a moving vehicle when spotted by police on Wednesday afternoon, leading Church Hill officers on a pair of foot pursuits.

Steven Christopher Brown, 22, of 1045 Lynn Garden Drive, is charged with evading arrest in the incident. According to Church Hill Police Chief Mark Johnson, an officer was running radar on North Central Avenue when a vehicle passed with Brown as a passenger.

Knowing Brown had active warrants, the charges of which weren't specified in a press release, the officer pursued the vehicle. That's when Brown opened the door and jumped from the passenger side of the car, running from police.

A press release says Brown fled into a wooded area near Church Hill Memory Gardens. Church Hill and Hawkins County officers found Brown after a 10 minute search, but he allegedly led police on a second foot chase before being taken into custody.

He was transported to the Hawkins County jail for booking.
