KINGSPORT — A Church Hill man has been cited by police after allegedly running a red light Wednesday morning and striking a Kingsport city school bus loaded with children.
No one was injured in the incident.
Kingsport police say the driver is charged with failure to yield the right of way. He reportedly passed though a red light while traveling west on Stone Drive in a Dodge Caravan, colliding with a bus that was traveling through the intersection at Afton Street on a green light.
School system spokesman Andy True said the incident occurred at 6:35 a.m. as Bus 7 was crossing Stone Drive, heading north on Afton Street with a green light. The minivan allegedly ran the light and hit the front driver side of the bus, which had 19 middle and high school students on board at the time, True said.
