KINGSPORT — A 4-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon from injuries he sustained in an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle, Kingsport police said.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at 513 Rogan Street at approximately 4:05 p.m.
The child, whose identity was not released by authorities, was reportedly playing around an ATV that was parked in the yard of the Rogan Street residence just prior to the accident occurring.
Police said the boy pushed and pulled the ATV at one point while he was playing and somehow managed to dislodge it from where it was parked.
The child was reportedly standing in front of the ATV as it began to roll down a slope and toward a house located below.
Police said the the child was struck by the ATV and pinned against the house.
The injuries the boy received were fatal, police said.
Police said the ATV's engine was turned off and the keys were not in the ignition when the accident occurred.
The boy’s death is being investigated by both the KPD's Criminal Investigations Division and Traffic Unit.
No charges had been filed Tuesday in connection with the accident.
Because the investigation is ongoing, Kingsport police said no further information would be released at this time.comments powered by Disqus
