South, North rise, D-B drops out of prep football rankings

Sullivan South and Sullivan North moved up in the second Associated Press Top 10 Tennessee high school football rankings of the season, released Monday, while Dobyns-Bennett fell out of the Class 6A poll after suffering its first loss in 34 regular-season games.

The Rebels jumped from seventh to fourth in the 4A rankings following their 37-27 comeback victory over 5A Tennessee High last Friday night. South (2-0) was tied with Crockett County at No. 4.

The Golden Raiders (1-1), who shut out Volunteer 16-0 last week, moved up one spot to sixth in the 3A poll.

The Indians (1-1), who were ranked 10th last Monday, lost 33-21 to 5A East Hamilton to fall out of the 6A poll.

Tennessee High  (1-1) dropped from a tie for fifth to eighth in the 5A rankings after its loss to South. Elizabethton (1-1), which pushed 6A Science Hill to the limit in a 40-35 loss, fell one spot to ninth in the 4A poll. The Hilltoppers (2-0) held at No. 7 in their division. Greeneville (2-0) remained second in 4A and received three first-place votes.
