K-Mets rally to beat Pulaski, win series

PULASKI, Va. — The Kingsport Mets rallied for a 5-3 win over the Pulaski Mariners on Tuesday night at Calfee Park to stay on track for a postseason berth.

The four teams in the hunt for two playoffs spots in the Appalachian League West Division all won for the second straight day. Only three games separate the teams.

On Tuesday, the K-Mets fell behind 3-0 after three innings but answered in the fifth.

Yeixon Ruiz doubled with two outs to plate Pedro Perez. Jeff McNeil got a base hit to score Perez and came home himself on Victor Cruzado’s line drive to center field.

In the sixth, Diehl doubled and Perez followed with a triple to drive in the winning run. Jeyckol De Leon singled in an insurance run in the seventh.

McNeil, Cruzado, Joe Tuschak and Perez had two hits apiece for Kingsport (37-27).

Kristian Brito went 2-for-4 with a home run for the Mariners (40-25).

Starter Yoan Gonzalez (4-4) gave the K-Mets six innings on the mound to earn the win. Robert Coles worked a hitless ninth to pick up his sixth save.

Kingsport returns to Hunter Wright Stadium on Wednesday night to host Bluefield in the final series of the regular season. Robert Whalen (3-2, 1.49 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Mets.
