PULASKI, Va. — Chris Flexen earned his Appalachian League-leading eighth win and the Kingsport Mets stopped a two-game skid with a 3-2 win over the Pulaski Mariners on Monday night at Calfee Park.
All four teams vying for the two playoff spots in the West Division won Monday, keeping Greeneville on top with Kingsport a half-game back and Johnson City and Elizabethton within 2½ games.
Flexen (8-1) allowed just one run on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Ricardo Jacquez gave up Pulaski’s other run in the ninth inning but still earned his sixth save.
Joe Tuschak singled and scored on a passed ball to get the K-Mets (36-27) on the board in the second. Adrian Abreu doubled to lead off the third and scored on a Jeff McNeil sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Jeyckol De Leon singled with two outs, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. He was singled home by Tuschak.
Jacquez loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and balked to allow a run before striking out the final two Pulaski (40-24) batters.
The rubber game of the series is Tuesday night at 7 o’clock. Kingsport hosts Bluefield on Wednesday in its final series of the regular season.
