KINGSPORT — Kingsport Mets infielder Yeixon Ruiz was voted to the 2013 Appalachian League All-Star team, announced Friday.
Ruiz was the lone K-Met to make the honorary team, which is selected by the media. The 23-year-old native of the Dominican Republic is hitting .325 with seven doubles and 12 stolen bases for the West Division-leading K-Mets.
Greeneville Astros manager Josh Bonifay was named the Appy League manager of the year.
The Pulaski Mariners placed a league-high four players on the team. Mariners infielder Tyler Smith was voted player of the year and Pulaski's Edwin Diaz was named pitcher of the year.
Kingsport took over first place in the Appy League's West Division with Thursday night's 7-0 victory against the Bluefield Blue Jays. The K-Mets are up by a half-game over the Astros with eight games remaining in the regular season.
Kingsport is in the middle of a six-game road trip but returns to Hunter Wright Stadium on Wednesday for a three-game series against Bluefield.
