A man has suffered serious injuries after being partially ejected from his car in an early Friday morning crash.
Kingsport police report the incident occurred at approximately 12:25 a.m. on West Stone Drive, near the intersection of Donelson Drive. For currently unknown reasons a 2003 Honda Accord driven by Dustin Eugene Kaywood, 26, exited the roadway directly in front of Jackson Elementary School.
Kaywood's car reportedly went down and embankment and came to rest on the passenger's side, with the roof of the vehicle against a tree. KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton says Kaywood was partially ejected in the crash, but was still pinned inside the car when emergency responders arrived to the scene.
The Kingsport Fire Department and Sullivan County EMS extricated Kaywood from the vehicle. He was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
