Student's 'revenge' on tobacco snitch prompts charges

The blotter is derived from recent central dispatch records and incident reports of area police agencies.

Aug. 19

A Rogersville man reported his girlfriend came to his residence to visit their children. After she left he discovered several items missing including a Playstation 2, DVD player and children's bedding.

A woman told police that a bull has been on her property for three days, and she doesn't know who it belongs to.

Aug. 20

At 11:15 p.m. police spotted two suspicious vehicles behind a church on Goshen Valley Road. The driver of one vehicle was questioned and consented to a search, at which time officers allegedly located 30 Oxycodone pills and three used syringes. He was arrested.

A Bulls Gap man returned home to find a glass door had been pried open, while 20 guns were missing from inside the residence. A surveillance camera, which he said had been hidden behind a deer mount, was found to have been pulled off the wall.

Aug. 19

Police were alerted that a man attending a funeral had two handguns under his shirt. An officer responded to speak with the subject, who was found to have valid carry permits.

A woman called police on her brother-in-law, saying he was throwing her sister's property out of their home.

Aug. 20

An individual on Dale Street reported being assaulted by a man who was armed with "a can of Febreeze."

A caller alerted police to several people fighting on Steadman Street, one of whom was "swinging a crutch."

Sullivan County Sheriff's Office

Aug. 21

A resident of Cole Hollow Road called police on a suspicious man "in the crawl space" of a neighboring home. When located by a responding officer, the suspect said he was hiding from his girlfriend. Police observed him to have a bloody lip and scratches to his side, while his significant other admitted to hitting him with a baseball bat. She was arrested for aggravated assault.

Police were called to Sullivan Central High School, where a student was punched in the head in shop class. When the 15-year-old fell to the floor, his attacker, 16, allegedly struck him two additional times. The suspect said he was "taking revenge" for a friend whom the other boy had snitched on for having tobacco at school. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, while charges of simple assault will be filed in juvenile court.

A Kingsport resident reported the theft of $10,000 cash from a home.

Authorities were alerted to a disturbance at Bristol Motor Speedway, spurred when a male pushed a female. Dispatch advised she had fallen down "and now the crowd is going after him."
