JEFFERSON CITY — As Bristol race week heats up later this month Carson-Newman University will host a celebrity roast featuring NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip.
The event is Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. at the school’s Jefferson City campus, and benefits The Boys and Girls Club of Dumplin Valley.
The roast is open to the public with an admission of $20 a person.
In addition to Darrell Waltrip, the panel will also include NASCAR drivers David Ragan, David Gilliland, Josh Wise and Michael McDowell.
“We are thrilled at the opportunity to host this special event featuring such an amazing line-up of racing talent,” said Carson-Newman University President Randall O’Brien. “We look forward to helping do our part to benefit The Boys and Girls Club of Dumplin Valley.”

Attendees can also bid on one-of-a-kind racing memorabilia and other sports items at a silent auction during the event. All proceeds for the evening will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Dumplin Valley.
The NASCAR Roast is in coordination with Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway race week. The Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, Aug. 24, will feature the No. 35 Carson-Newman University Ford Fusion driven by Front Row Motorsports’ Josh Wise in partnership with Ted Russell Ford and Premier Maintenance.
