KINGSPORT — Jonathan Leroux blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to put the Kingsport Mets ahead 3-2, and they held on to beat the Pulaski Mariners 7-4 on Thursday night at Hunter Wright Stadium.
Leroux’s homer, his fourth on the season, helped make a winner of K-Met starter Chris Flexen (6-1), who settled in nicely after getting tagged for two earned runs in the top of the second inning. Pulaski’s Aaron Barbosa and Ian Miller each came through with a two-out RBI single in the second frame to put the Mariners (30-17) ahead.
But Flexen didn’t allow another run before departing after seven solid innings of work. Flexen surrendered just five hits.
Jeff Diehl hit a two-run homer in the seventh to help Kingsport (27-19) build a commanding 7-2 lead by the time the ninth inning rolled around.
Pulaski put one last scare into the K-Mets by loading the bases with no outs in the top of the ninth. The Mariners plated one run on a passed ball and another on a sacrifice fly, but Kingsport reliever Ricardo Jacquez slammed the door with a strike out.
Pulaski starter Eddie Campbell (2-2) took the loss after giving up four earned runs on six hits.comments powered by Disqus
