August 6th, 2013 9:31 am by Nick Shepherd

A Sullivan County woman is accused of receiving health care benefits through TennCare even though she was not eligible for the program, according to the Office of the Inspector General.

Michelle Davis, 35, Bristol, is being charged with TennCare fraud and theft of services. Sullivan County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest.

According to the Office of the Inspector General, Davis received TennCare benefits by willfully falsfying a statement or other fraudulent means. Davis claimed her minor children as members of her household in order to be eligible for TennCare benefits, according to the report.

TennCare fraud and theft of services are both Class E felonies which could result in a sentence of up to two years in prison per charge. District Attorney General Barry P. Staubus is prosecuting.
