Gas prices fall across region, according to AAA

Gas prices fell last week across the region and the nation, according to AAA's
latest fuel gauge report.

The auto club said that while crude oil prices
are trading near $107 per barrel, prices have remained relatively steady, and
this has helped keep gasoline pump prices from spiking.
"Equal but
competing factors are weighing on the market. Most notably the factors include:
lower than expected job growth in July, tensions in the Mideast and North Africa
and the worldwide travel alert due to the potential threat of a terrorist attack
from al-Qa’ida," AAA said in its report this week.

Oil closed on the
NYMEX Friday at $106.94-- $2.24 more than the week prior.

This week's
average price in Kingsport is $3.31 per gallon. Last week's average price was

In Johnson City, the average price this week is $3.34 while last
week's price was $3.39. Bristol average price is $3.33. Last week's average
price in Bristol was $3.39.

Nationwide the average price per gallon is
$3.61, while last week's average was $3.63.

AAA suggests that for the
best efficiency, drivers should make sure their cars are in good shape, reduce
excess weight in the car, use the most fuel efficient vehicle possible, and
combine trips to reduce gasoline use. Other options are to take public transit
where possible or ride a bike. Other suggestions and the AAA Fuel Cost
