Organizers of downtown Kingsport’s Bluegrass on Broad summer concert series received word late Friday night that the English bluegrass group Mardi Grass, which was scheduled to perform Aug. 9, has disbanded and will not fulfill any more of its scheduled appearances.
Taking the place of Mardi Grass at Friday night’s show will be the Kentucky-based bluegrass band The Velvet Blue, featuring Brian Cooper on vocals and guitar, Carrie Marie Johnson on vocals and bass, Megan McKamey on vocals and banjo, and Taylor Hampton on mandolin.
Formed in 2012, the band has been working on its debut album, “Memories and Heartaches.”
Show time is 7 p.m. on Broad Street in downtown Kingsport.
Admission is free. Bring a lawn chair, but leave the coolers and pets at home. Non-perishable food items are collected each week and donated to local food banks.
