KINGSPORT — A man accused of robbing a local pharmacy at gunpoint was taken into custody by Kingsport police Tuesday afternoon after being located at an area motel.
Eric David McPhillips, 40, 111 Kinzer Lane, Kingsport, was arrested by the Kingsport Police Department on an aggravated robbery charge stemming from the July 28 armed robbery of Berry's Pharmacy, 1717 Fort Henry Dr., Kingsport.
KPD spokesman Tom Patton said officers moved in to make the arrest after receiving information Tuesday that McPhillips was staying in room 247 at the Budget Inn, located at 1708 East Stone Dr.
Several KPD patrol officers responded to the scene, Patton said. Three of those officers, assisted by a KPD K9 unit, were able to enter the motel room and take McPhillips in custody without incident.
According to police reports, a previously unidentified McPhillips entered Berry's Pharmacy around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at store owner Dave Berry before demanding prescription pills.
Police said McPhillips left the scene immediately after being given an undisclosed amount of prescription medication.
Patton said police identified McPhillips as a suspect in the robbery upon further investigation and obtained warrants for his arrest prior to locating him Tuesday.
