Clabaughs lead the pack in Baylee Dockery benefit race

GATE CITY — Matt Clabaugh won a photo finish with his brother, Hank, to take the men’s title in Saturday’s Baylee Dockery 5K Road Race.

The 36-year-old Clabaugh clocked a time of 18:21, just one-hundredth of a second ahead of his twin brother — who collected the male 35-39 age group victor’s ribbon in consolation.

On the women’s side of the field, 16-year-old Hannah Kilgore took the top female overall award, logging a 24:25. She came in 16th overall.

Saturday’s race was a fundraiser for Baylee Dockery, a 6-year-old girl who suffered brain damage from a seizure after a prolonged fever at age 2. All proceeds go to benefit Baylee.

Chris Sapp, 16, came in third overall with a time of 19:27, leading the male 19-under age group. Jeremy Keller was third at 19:27, the fastest runner among males age 30-34. Garrett Watts, 19, was fifth overall (19:55), followed by 39-year-old Willis Hamilton (20:23).

Jake Daugherty, 31, was seventh overall (20:59) followed by 49-year-old Chuck Trese, who won his age group ribbon with a 21:18.

Other finishers at the head of the pack included Shawn Becker (21:27), Rodney Jessee (22:35), Gregory Oliphant (22:44), Josh France (23:30), Brandon Berg (24:15), Taylor Noal (24:32) and Curtis Akard (24:34).

Chasing Kilgore in the women’s race was 30-year-old Allison Colobro (25:43), who was the fastest female in the 30-34 age bracket. Rebecca Hamilton, who led the 35-39 group, finished third with 26:19.
