Ralph Andrew McClellan
KINGSPORT — Kingsport police are looking for a man who ditched one car following a high speed chase then stole another car from the parking lot of a local business.
Police are seeking Ralph Andrew McClellan, 32, 131 Georgia Private Drive, on two separate warrants. He is being charged with theft over $10,000, felony evading arrest, felony reckless endangerment, possession of stolen property, speeding, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a revoked license and driving left of center.
The incident began in the early morning hours on Monday, when officers with the Kingsport Police Department were dispatched to the Model City Motel because a car was suspiciously circling the parking lot.
When officers arrived, a 2004 GMC Envoy rapidly left the parking lot. When officers attempted to make a stop on Memorial Boulevard, a pursuit ensued, according to a police report.
The Envoy turned onto Orebank Road and accelerated to 69 mph in a 40 mph zone and crossed the double lines multiple times.
The Envoy eventually was driven into the yard of 4402 Orebank Road, into a wooded area at the back of the property and came to rest in a creek.
A female passenger was located and the male driver was later identified as McClellan, who was believed to have run from the scene. The Envoy had been reported as stolen to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, according to the police report.
Later Monday, officers were dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle from Papa John’s, 2038 Fort Henry Drive.
An employee told officers a suspicious man walked around the parking lot for several minutes and then went inside to get a drink.
When the man, identified as McClellan, went back outside, he got into an employee’s vehicle and drove away, according to the police report.
The vehicle, a silver 2012 Nissan Versa, was unlocked with the keys in the vehicle. It also had a Papa John’s delivery sign attached to the top of the car, but it could have been easily removed after the theft, according to the report.
Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of McClellan or the stolen Nissan Versa is asked to contact the KPD at (423) 246-9111.
