DAMASCUS — Virginia State Police released the name Monday of a Bristol, Va., man who was killed this past weekend in an ATV crash in Washington County.
The victim was identified by authorities as William D. Perry, 47.
VSP spokeswoman Corrine Geller said Perry owned property near the area where the wreck occurred.
State police were first called to the scene, which was located on private property along Route 730 north of Damascus, to investigate the fatal accident around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Geller said officers discovered Perry and his crashed four-wheeler at the base of a steep embankment shortly after arriving at the property.
The ATV apparently went down the embankment before striking a tree, Geller said.
Perry's body was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Abingdon Sunday. His body was then taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke, where his identity and time of death were confirmed.
Geller said the fatal wreck remains under investigation by VSP Senior Trooper S.L. Glover.
