Text message and ceramic fragments point to Hawkins tire slashing suspect

Pamela Lynn Brown, 41

CHURCH HILL — A Church Hill woman denied slashing her boyfriend’s tire after an argument Sunday afternoon, but a telltale text and fragments of broken ceramic allegedly said otherwise.

CHPD Officer Ethan Mays was dispatched to Food City late Sunday afternoon to meet Richard Lane so that he could retrieve his personal property from his girlfriend’s apartment on Ordinance Drive.

Lane told Mays that he and his girlfriend, Pamela Lynn Brown, 41, 734 Ordinance Dr. Apt. A-4, Church Hill, had been in a verbal argument and he left to “cool down.”

“Upon my arrival at (Brown’s apartment) I spoke with Ms. Brown, who advised me that after they were involved in a verbal altercation earlier in the day, Mr. Lane walked out the back door and left,” Mays said. “While Mr. Lane was attempting to retrieve his clothes, he advised me his work boots were missing. When I asked Ms. Brown about them, she advised me that she had become angry and threw them in a wooded area across from the apartment.”

Lane also noticed that the rear left tire on the 2014 Toyota Corolla he was driving was flat.

Upon inspecting the tire, Mays reportedly observed a puncture mark in the tire.

“Ms. Brown denied having cut his tire; however, Mr. Lane was able to show me a text message from Ms. Brown saying that she was destroying his vehicle,” Mays said.

“Ms. Brown admitted to sending the text, but still denied having done it. Also observed on the vehicle were small pieces of ceramic.”

Mays added, “Inside the apartment was an ornament made out of ceramic that had been broken.”

Lane stated that when he left his apartment around 4 p.m., his vehicle was in good condition.

Brown reportedly sent him a text saying she was destroying his car at 4:37 p.m.

As a result of that evidence, Brown was arrested and charged with domestic vandalism.
