KINGSPORT — The Optimist Club of Colonial Heights hosted its annual Fun Fest fishing derby at Warriors Park State Park last Saturday.
Over 135 kids registered for the event, and several awards were presented.
Trophies were given to the boy and girl who caught the first fish. Tyesha Richardson, 8, of and Harrison Barnes, 10, took won awards for hauling in the first catch.
Other winners were Madison Evans, 10, for the first limit of five fish caught by a girl, and Jacob Stewart with the first limit of five for a boy.
Madilyn Carter, 5, won the award for the heaviest fish caught by a girl and James Allison, 4, earned the boys’ award for heaviest fish. Savannah Stipes, 6, and Braylon Ford, 4, each received a trophy for the longest fish.
Every child who attended received a prize. There was also a drawing for fishing rods, tackle boxes, and other prizes provided by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Auxiliary unit provided fingerprinting to any child who had not had this done previously. Also, members of the JROTC at Sullivan South assisted with registration.
