Tsadik, Njorge new to Crazy 8s elite field

The field for the Indian Path Medical Center & CrestPoint Health Crazy 8s 8K Run just got boosted by the additions of several talented distance runners making the trip to Kingsport on Saturday evening, July 13th.

Fikadu Tsadik from Ethiopia is only 19 years old, but has already made a name for himself with a 28:17 10K in France last year and impressive showings at the Junior World Championships.  He has been racing in Europe and will arrive for the first time on U.S. soil this week.

Stephen Njorge, 23, from Kenya, has been racing and training in Mexico.  He recently won a 10K in Mexico and finished second at the Pittsburgh Marathon.  Julius Koskei will return to Kingsport after finishing 4th at Crazy 8s in 2011 with an excellent time of 22:33.

Tsadik, Njorge, and Koskei will join Shadrack Kosgei and Tolossa Gedefa on the starting line as they go for the Bank of Tennessee $5,000 Dash For The Gold, and the Regional Eye Center $10,008 World Record Bonus for the first man to break Peter Githuka’s legendary world record of 22:02.3 set in 1996.

The gun will go off at 9:58 p.m. on the candle-lit streets of Kingsport’s world-famous figure-8 course.

“The weather is looking pretty decent for Saturday night,” said event director Hank Brown.  “Let’s hope it holds up and these guys can make a serious run at the record.”
