Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency fisheries biologist Jim Habera will be the guest speaker at the Overmountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited’s July meeting.
Habera, who oversees trout fisheries in Region IV, will discuss the status of Northeast Tennessee’s wild trout and tailwater fisheries.
Habera’s updates, which has become a yearly tradition for the local TU chapter, have typically attracted interest from anglers outside the usual TU membership.
As always, the meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m. on July 18 at Cocula Restaurant in Johnson City, is open to the public.
This year, Habera’s program will include a focus on the Left Prong of Hampton Creek, Doe Creek and the ongoing re-survey of brook trout distribution.
He also will spend significant time discussing the South Holston and Watauga trout tailwaters. The current Five Year Management Plans for those rivers concludes in 2014.
Anglers should especially be looking forward to the Watauga tailwater segment. Last year, flows below Wilbur Dam were insufficient to support TWRA sampling and survey methods.
