GATE CITY — An alleged argument over a moped sparked an assault at a Scott County residence last week that left one man seriously injured and led to the arrest of two brothers.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office said that it arrested Marvin Maurice Hale, 26, and his brother, Ronnie Lee Hale, 23, both of Castlewood, on July 4 on charges of breaking and entering, malicious wounding and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The charges stem from an assault that allegedly occurred in the early morning hours of July 3 at a residence in the Sinking Creek community near Dungannon.
According to reports from the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the younger Hale brother was staying with the victim and his wife on the night of the alleged beating took place.
Authorities said the trio began arguing over a moped when Ronnie Hale allegedly shoved the victim's wife. As a result, the occupants of the residence reportedly asked Ronnie Hale to leave.
Ronnie Hale reportedly left the residence, but authorities said he returned a short time later with his older brother, Marvin, under the pretense of collecting belongings he had there.
When the two men entered the alleged victim's home, a fight reportedly erupted, authorities said.
Authorities said the victim was knocked to the floor at one point during the fight before being severely beaten by the brothers. Investigators with knowledge of the attack said the victim's face was unrecognizable due to the extent of the injuries he received and the amount of blood visible.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds, authorities said.
Both Ronnie and Marvin Hale reportedly turned themselves in to the Scott County Sheriff's Office around 7 p.m. on July 4, regional jail records show.
The brothers were arraigned in Scott County court Monday and are currently being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield.comments powered by Disqus
