A sudden increase in the amount of water flowing in the Little River on Saturday afternoon left 11 people clinging to branches before emergency personnel rescued them.
The Townsend Volunteer Fire Department, Blount County Fire Department and Blount Special Operations Response Team personnel performed swift-water rescues of individuals who were riding tubes on the river, Townsend Volunteer Fire Department Chief Don Stallions said.
The chief said the first call came into Blount County E-911 dispatchers at 12:30 p.m.
