Lunch on the Lawn series

The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park in Big Stone Gap, Va., will continue its “Lunch on the Lawn” series at noon, July 5 with a performance by Tyler Hughes. Guests may bring their own lunch or pre-order one from the museum. To order a lunch, call (276) 523-1322 by 9 a.m. the day of the program. Cost is $5 for the meal; program is free.

Erwin Kiwanis Campfire Program

The Kiwanis Club of Erwin and the Cherokee National Forest Service will present the 20th annual series of the Campfire Programs at the Rock Creek Recreation Area Amphitheater, near Erwin at 8 p.m. every Friday through Aug. 9. The programs will include a variety of local country, bluegrass and contemporary Christian music groups. Admission is free.

MECC’s Mountain Music School

Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, Va., is accepting applications for the ninth annual Mountain Music School, set for July 22-26 on the college’s campus. Students ages 10 and older will learn to play an instrument of their choice. Students can also choose from several workshops, including mountain dance, harmony singing and voice. Students who do not have their own instruments will be provided one for the week at no additional cost. Registration is $150, which includes lunch each day and a T-shirt. WORKSHOPS

Summer Institute for Entertainment

Northeast State will sponsor a Summer Institute for Entertainment Technology from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 23-25 at the Northeast State Bristol teaching site, 620 State St., downtown Bristol. The workshop will feature bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson. Cost is $250. Topics include sound, lighting, production and performance techniques.
