Here is what’s playing in movie theaters in the area:

“DESPICABLE ME 2,” PG. Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.

“FAST & FURIOUS 6,” PG-13. Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) enlists Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his team to bring down former Special Ops soldier Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), leader of a unit specializing in vehicular warfare.

“THE HEAT,” R. Uptight FBI special agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is paired with testy Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) in order to take down a ruthless drug lord. The hitch: neither woman has ever had a partner — or a friend for that matter.

“THE LONE RANGER,” PG-13. Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice.

“MAN OF STEEL,” PG-13. A young journalist (Henry Cavill) is forced to confront his secret extraterrestrial heritage when Earth is invaded by members of his race.

“MONSTERS UNIVERSITY,” G. A look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at Monsters University — when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends.

“NOW YOU SEE ME,” PG-13. An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.

“THE PURGE,” R. A family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized.

“THIS IS THE END,” R. While attending a party at James Franco’s house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.

“WHITE HOUSE DOWN,” PG-13. While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a Capitol policeman (Channing Tatum) springs into action to save his child and protect the president (Jamie Foxx) from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.

“WORLD WAR Z,” PG-13. United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.
